Reads the streamer put up as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) of Region 3 launches a “serious anti-colorum operation” in Central Luzon. Nine colorum UVs plying the Mac Arthur Highway in Gerona, Tarlac were apprehended last February 27, 2018.
The more than 200 colorum vans are being complained by the Tarlac-Moncada-Gerona-Paniqui Transport Service Cooperative (TAMOGEPA) composed of 103 jeepneys plying the towns north of the province.
TAMOGEPA members' have filed several complaints against the colorum vans since 2010 which they say are being protected by some local LTO personnel.
The Tarlac City LTO is headed by Estella Nicolas while the Paniqui District office is Led by Rogelio Yambao.
The Paniqui LTO is located along the Mac Arthur Highway in front of which all the colorum vans pass everyday.
“LTO Region 3 will not stop its operation against colorum in the whole region, especially in Tarlac, to make sure that only legitimate public utility vehicles will ply the roads for the safety and welfare of the commuting public”, declared Manaloto in an interview.
Under the new Memorandum Circular of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), apprehended colorum vans are impounded and are fined P200,000 while buses are penalized P1 Million.
In case a colorum vehicle meets an accidents, passengers are not covered by vehicle insurance and the driver and owner are declared at fault over the accident.
Ngayon lang kami nakaka-limang biyahe”, also said Fajardo.
Manaloto pledged they will continuously conduct operation against colorum.
It is our mandate to protect the tax-paying PUVs and to ensure the safety of the riding public”, Manaloto averred.
The 55-year old Manaloto is a former Provincial Board Secretary. He replaced former ARD George Mamba who incidentally hails from this town.
